About Us

The Path to Gourmet Goodness
I love good food. I’ve worked in the food business for more than 25 years, and also have traveled around the world, searching out the best places to eat in whatever city or country I found myself. From China to Rome and even to New Jersey, I can still say that the best of the best have been found in little out-of-the way places where locals eat — places where fresh, top-quality, simple food is prepared with little fanfare and served with pride. Some of the most seemingly-simplistic foods, such as hand-made cheeses, gourmet chocolates, great coffee, crusty baguettes and flaky croissants, amaze the palate and soothe the soul.

In 2008, a couple of other New Braunfels foodies were enjoying a light supper that consisted of an assortment of cheeses and fruits, and they began to entertain the idea of having a little shop that offered the things that gave them such pleasure. Their idea took root, blossomed into a dream, and after much hard work, Gourmage — a blend of gourmet and fromage — opened its doors in April of 2009.

When best pals mentioned to me that there may be the opportunity to purchase this bustling business, I hesitated for at least one full minute. And then I set about to figure out how to make it happen. Suffice it to say, I did. And I’ve never been happier.

So the next time you make a trip into historic downtown New Braunfels, whether coming from San Antonio or other locales in the South Texas area, stop by. You’ll want to check out our selection of artisanal cheeses and breads, enjoy a cup of our premium coffee or treat yourself to a handmade gourmet marshmallow or chocolate truffle while you peruse our selection of gourmet foods, wines and specialty beers. Or sit for a few minutes and have a glass of wine, a cold beer, and/or a light lunch — our menu items are made from scratch, including the soups for which we’re quickly becoming famous.

I think you’ll see why I’m so happy.
